Mr. Fertel is Managing Director/Head of Institutional Taxable Fixed Income Sales (TFI) at Janney Montgomery Scott. TFI works with a wide range of institutional clients including money managers, insurance companies, depositories, hedge funds and municipalities and is active in Agency and non-Agency MBS, credit, Agency debentures, preferreds and taxable munis. Mr. Fertel rejoined Janney in June 2008 after running a financial services hedge fund for two years. Mr. Fertel founded and managed the Asset/Liability Services group (ALM) at Janney from 1995 until 2006. In his role he advised community banks on a broad range of issues, including asset/liability modeling, balance sheet strategies, loan and deposit pricing and capital management planning. He has worked with dozens of banks and thrifts in the mid-Atlantic region ranging in size from $100 million to $25 billion. For the four years prior to joining Janney, Mr. Fertel was with PNC Bank (Provident Bank) in Philadelphia, PA., where he managed the asset/liability department, the funding department and investment portfolio. He also managed institutional mutual funds at a subsidiary company, Blackrock (Provident Funds.) Mr. Fertel started his banking career at Irving Trust Company in New York City, where he completed a one year loan officer training program. He three years in Credit Administration before being promoted to the bank’s Treasury department, where he traded Fed funds, Eurodollar futures and options and interest rate swaps. Mr. Fertel graduated Magna Cum Laude from Boston University School of Management.
