Experience

Karen Shakoske leads Marketing and Corporate Communications at Janney. In this role, she is responsible for the delivery of the firm’s brand strategy, digital strategy, marketing communications for sales and business development support, corporate communications, and community and public relations.

Karen joined Janney in 2005 as a result of the firm’s acquisition of Parker/Hunter Incorporated, a Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania-based wealth management, financial planning, and investment banking firm. She became Director of Marketing for the combined firms in the fall of 2005. She subsequently built a team and strategy that today serves as an in-house marketing agency for more than 800 Financial Advisors, and a corporate newsroom that distributes content to a variety of audiences through an integrated communications strategy.

In addition to her leadership role in Marketing and Communications, Karen is an internal and external advocate for equality, diversity, and inclusion in the workplace. She is the executive sponsor of Janney’s Early Career Professionals employee resource group, and a co-founder and former executive sponsor of Janney’s Women’s Interactive Network employee resource group. In these advocacy roles, she has been influential in changing the firm’s approach to inclusion and diversity and helping to affect positive change through professional development programs, promoting employee networking activities inside and outside of the firm, and establishing strategic community partnerships.

Karen received her bachelor’s degree in English Literature, with a concentration in short fiction writing, from Allegheny College.
